Supporting DHH Students who are Autistic

This session will discuss the varied presentations that teachers may see when working with students who are deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) and autistic in the mainstream setting. It will also cover some of the possible challenges that may arise due to the intersectionality of hearing loss and autism.
By the end of this session, the learner will be able to:
- Identify strategies that can be used with students in their own caseloads or classrooms.
- Describe the potential impact that autism and hearing loss have together on a student’s learning and language development.
- Create programming by using the student’s strength and/or interest as a key source of input.
