About Session
This presentation focuses on the vital role of parent-child interaction in fostering spoken language development in children who are deaf and hard of hearing. Recent research outcomes will be discussed and practical tools to promote this interaction will be provided.
By the end of this session, the learner will be able to:
- Describe what aspects of parent-child interaction are related to the spoken language skills of children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
- Learn how to promote parent-child interaction in children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
- Apply some tools to guide parents in promoting their child’s language development.
About the Speakers
Evelien Dirks, PhD | Professor, NSDSK, and Program Director, Tilburg University (Netherlands)
Evelien Dirks is a professor in early development and intervention in individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing (DHH). In addition, she is the program director of the DHH research and development program of the NSDSK. Her research focus on the early development of children who are DHH within the context of the parent-child interaction. She is also involved in the development of materials to promote child development such as parent courses, books, videos and apps.
