About Session
Improvements in cochlear implant array design and surgical techniques in the last two decades have allowed patients receiving cochlear implants to maintain a majority of their natural hearing they had before surgery. This presentation discusses improved patient outcomes from hearing preservation cochlear implantation previously unseen with early generation cochlear implants.
By the end of this session, the learner will be able to:
- Explain the benefits of minimally traumatic cochlear implant surgery.
- Compare the outcomes of patients whose natural residual hearing remain intact after cochlear implant surgery.
- Describe how the criteria for cochlear implants have changed over time.
