Crafting His Summer: Dawson’s Story

Dawson used his Arts & Sciences scholarship to expand his pottery skills!

Lea en Español

Clay has always been Dawson’s favorite medium, and at the Coldwater Arts 3D Art Open Studio, he’ll finally have the chance to sculpt anything and everything.

Dawson’s hearing loss has been a part of his whole life, as he was diagnosed with bilateral hearing loss at age 7 months. His hearing aids were fitted just three months later, and at 6 years of age Dawson was able to receive bilateral cochlear implants. After completing 10th grade, his parents knew he had a creative side when out of all the classes Dawson attended, art classes were the ones he participated in the most.

This is what caused his parents to believe Coldwater Arts would be the perfect place for him to dive into anything from ceramics to glass and sculpture. With AG Bell’s Arts and Sciences Award, Dawson will be able to mold his future as a creative and academic.

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2026 Arts & Sciences Award scholarship. Apply by February 16, 2026, to gain access to programs that help students participate in after-school, weekend or summer programs to enrich language and develop skills in the arts or sciences.
