This presentation will describe how vocabulary knowledge in preschool children using cochlear implants and hearing aids influences other domains of language development and the development of emergent literacy skills. The relation between these skills and early elementary decoding and comprehension outcomes will be explored.
By the end of this session, the learner will be able to:
- Describe different types of vocabulary knowledge and how they relate to domains of language.
- Identify the relationship between vocabulary knowledge and early literacy acquisition in children with hearing aids and cochlear implants.
- Analyze how listening through a hearing aid or cochlear implant influences decoding and comprehension through vocabulary knowledge.
