The Key to the Perfect Summer: Grace’s Piano Journey

Thanks to the AG Bell Arts and Sciences scholarship, Grace's piano skills are giving her sister a run for her money!

Lea en Español

“She has a natural love for all things music-related,” Grace’s mom, Shaun, details. Grace channels this love into piano, as the family piano was left without a player after her older sister went to college. Now Grace plays the piano every day, with extreme dedication, and wants to improve this base beyond self-teaching.

This is why Grace wants to attend the CedarStone School of Music, which is a professional music school that provides one-on-one lessons in person. Not only does Grace want to gain piano skills, but she also wants to improve her knowledge of dance. Being able to perform music is impressive on its own, but Grace goes one step beyond this, as she “doesn’t let her hearing loss affect her in any way”.

Grace was diagnosed with hearing loss at birth, but received hearing aids at just 2 years of age. Similarly, she was able to successfully receive BAHA’s (bone anchored hearing aids) by 2 1/2 years old. Now Grace excels with Listening and Spoken Language, is known for her talent in lip reading, and even has a basic knowledge of sign language! She also has a natural tact for leadership, and Meek shares how Grace always “take[s] charge of the things she loves and wants to learn”.

Thanks to AG Bell’s Arts and Sciences Award, Grace can take this desire to lead into the Cedarwood School and maybe give her piano-loving sister a run for her money!

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2026 Arts & Sciences Award scholarship. Apply by February 16, 2026, to gain access to programs that help students participate in after-school, weekend or summer programs to enrich language and develop skills in the arts or sciences.
