Successful reading begins with a strong foundation in listening and language. This presentation will cover Chall’s Stages of Reading Development and new evidence from the Science of Reading. Strategies for targeting literacy and language will be presented, along with tools to track the development of these skills in children who are deaf and hard of hearing (DHH).
By the end of this session, the learner will be able to:
- Describe skills involved in early reading.
- Discuss the connection between Listening and Spoken Language and literacy.
- Apply SoR to children who are DHH.
