This past June, a global community of professionals gathered for AG Bell’s 6th Global Listening and Spoken Language Virtual Symposium. Attendees joined leaders in the field of Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) to learn together and expand their knowledge of best and emerging best practices.
“The Symposium stands as a leading provider of valuable learning and networking opportunities for professionals around the world,” said Emilio Alonso-Mendoza, CEO of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell). “These professionals are eager to learn as much as they can to help children in their countries gain Listening and Spoken Language skills. We are excited to be a part of their journey to impact so many children and families globally.”
Developing an Influential Global Workforce
This year’s Symposium theme was a call for professionals to gather, learn, and collaborate on a global scale. A World of Sound Ideas Developing Future Voices brought professionals together to share insights, spark new ideas, and work toward one powerful goal—helping children everywhere build strong Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) skills.
Participants engaged through panel discussions, interactive sessions, and inspiring keynote speakers to gain valuable information on how to grow language and learning opportunities in their own countries and practice.
The biggest draw to this year’s Symposium remained the education program, variety of presentation styles and topics, and the reputations of the presenters themselves. From NIH-funded keynote presentations to lunch-time conversations, there was a little bit of everything for attendees to enjoy.
“It was a truly diverse Symposium with terrific multi-cultural information. I was very impressed by the new information and the amount of work to bring new speakers and new languages together,” one attendee reflected on the experience.
“The thing I love most about this conference is that I can immediately implement information learned into my job! It’s so practical,” noted another attendee.
“The presenters were engaging and knowledgeable. Every presentation I attended was informative and I took away new concepts or materials,” added one attendee.
“The information shared during this year’s Symposium, as always, was top notch. Thank you for putting together such a wonderful Symposium, year after year! The content was relevant, informative, fresh, applicable, and inspiring,” stated another.
“Overall, the Symposium offered a very rich and relevant range of topics that addressed both current challenges and emerging opportunities in Listening and Spoken Language development. I appreciated the balance of research-based information and practical tools that can be applied directly in family-centered practice. The sessions helped deepen my understanding of how to support DHH children and their families, especially in diverse and underserved communities. Thank you for organizing such a well-structured event,” one attendee provided.
This year’s Symposium continued to provide opportunities for global learning and engagement. Many attendees commented that the international representation was a highlight for them. As one attendee noted, the ability to connect is unique to this virtual gathering:

Whether it was a word of encouragement, a shared resource, or a virtual cheer for a fellow colleague, the warmth and mutual support were unmistakable. It was a beautiful reminder that even across time zones and screens, our shared purpose brings us together as one global family.
This truly is ‘my people.’ Being part of this community fills me with pride and a sense of purpose. I already miss the conversations, the learning, and most of all, the sense of belonging that comes with being among like-minded, passionate individuals committed to excellence in Listening and Spoken Language outcomes around the world.”
The On Demand Symposium Returns August 15-October 31
One of the main benefits of a virtual program is the ability to record and offer the sessions to all attendees. This year’s On Demand version will include most sessions and run from August 15 to October 31.
Regardless of where you are in the world, you will still have an opportunity to learn about best practices in the field of LSL, information that can easily be applied directly to practice. And you can do this on your own schedule, in the comfort of your home. “I am so thankful that I can attend this way, so thank you for making it available on demand,” commented one attendee.
The recorded sessions will be available to view through the Symposium’s online learning platform, and registrants can earn up to 3.75 (37.5) continuing education credits (CEUs) for the AG Bell Academy, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and the American Academy of Audiology (AAA). Those who registered for and/or attended the live Symposium will also have access to the On Demand sessions at no additional cost. However, anyone can still register and participate in the On Demand version of the Symposium at https://agbell.org/symposium/.

Un Mundo de grandes ideas para el desarrollo de las voces del futuro
El pasado mes de junio, una comunidad global de profesionales se reunió para celebrar el VI Simposio Global Virtual de AG Bell de Escucha y Lenguaje Hablado. Desarrollo de una fuerza laboral global influyente
El tema del Simposio de este año fue un llamamiento a los profesionales para que se reunieran, aprendieran y colaboraran a escala mundial. Un Mundo de grandes ideas para el desarrollo de las voces del futuro (A World of Sound Ideas Developing Future Voices) reunió a profesionales para compartir conocimientos, generar nuevas ideas y trabajar hacia un importante objetivo común: ayudar a los niños de todo el mundo a desarrollar sólidas habilidades de Escucha y Lenguaje Hablado (LSL).
Los asistentes participaron en mesas redondas, sesiones interactivas y ponencias inspiradoras para obtener información valiosa sobre cómo aumentar las oportunidades de aprendizaje y desarrollo del lenguaje en sus propios países y prácticas.
El mayor atractivo del Simposio de este año ha seguido siendo el programa educativo, la variedad de estilos y temas de presentación, y la reputación de los propios ponentes. Desde presentaciones magistrales financiadas por los NIH hasta conversaciones a la hora del almuerzo, hubo un poco de todo para que los asistentes disfrutaran.
«Fue un simposio verdaderamente diverso con una información multicultural excelente. Me impresionó gratamente la nueva información y el trabajo realizado para reunir a nuevos ponentes y ofrecer nuevos idiomas», comentó uno de los asistentes sobre la experiencia.
«Lo que más me gusta de este congreso es que puedo aplicar inmediatamente la información aprendida a mi trabajo. Es muy práctica», señaló otro asistente.
«Los ponentes fueron interesantes, además de expertos. Todas las presentaciones a las que asistí fueron informativas y me aportaron nuevos conceptos o materiales», añadió otro asistente.
«La información compartida durante el Simposio de este año, como siempre, fue de primer nivel. ¡Gracias por organizar un Simposio tan extraordinario, año tras año! El contenido fue pertinente, informativo, novedoso, aplicable e inspirador», afirmó otro.
«En general, el Simposio ofreció una gama abundante y relevante de temas en los que se abordaron tanto los retos actuales como las oportunidades emergentes en el desarrollo de la Escucha y el Lenguaje Hablado. Agradecí el equilibrio entre la información basada en la investigación y las herramientas prácticas que se pueden aplicar directamente en la práctica centrada en la familia. Las sesiones me ayudaron a entender mejor la manera de ayudar a los niños con sordera e hipoacusia y a sus familias, especialmente en comunidades diversas y con recursos limitados. Gracias por organizar un evento tan bien estructurado», comentó un asistente.
El Simposio de este año siguió ofreciendo oportunidades para el aprendizaje y el compromiso globales. Muchos asistentes comentaron que la representación internacional fue, en su opinión, uno de los aspectos más destacados. Como comentó uno de ellos, la posibilidad de conectar es algo único de este encuentro virtual:
«El Simposio AG Bell 2025 fue, una vez más, una experiencia inspiradora y estimulante que me recordó por qué esta comunidad ocupa un lugar tan especial en mi corazón. El alto nivel de los ponentes y la profundidad de sus presentaciones reflejaron no solo conocimientos de vanguardia, sino también un profundo compromiso con los niños, las familias y los profesionales a los que servimos. En cada sesión se ofrecieron nuevas perspectivas, reflexiones profundas y herramientas prácticas basadas en la investigación y la experiencia del mundo real.
Más allá del contenido, lo que realmente destaco es el espíritu de camaradería y conexión que se percibía en las salas de chat y en los debates. Ya fuera con palabras de ánimo, recursos compartidos o vítores virtuales para un compañero, la calidez y el apoyo mutuo eran constantes. Fue un gran recordatorio de que, incluso a través de las zonas horarias y las pantallas, nuestro propósito común nos une como una sola familia global.
Esta es realmente “mi gente”. Formar parte de esta comunidad me llena de orgullo y sentido de propósito. Ya extraño las conversaciones, el aprendizaje y, sobre todo, la sensación de pertenencia que se experimenta al estar entre personas afines, apasionadas y comprometidas con la excelencia en los resultados de la Escucha y el Lenguaje Hablado en todo el mundo».
El Simposio Bajo Demanda regresa del 15 de agosto al 31 de octubre
Una de las principales ventajas de un programa virtual es la posibilidad de grabar y ofrecer las sesiones a todos los asistentes. La versión Bajo Demanda de este año incluirá la mayoría de las sesiones y estará disponible del 15 de agosto al 31 de octubre.
Independientemente del lugar del mundo donde resida, seguirá teniendo la oportunidad de aprender las mejores prácticas en el campo de LSL, una información que se puede aplicar fácil y directamente a la práctica. Y lo podrá hacer en su propio horario, desde la comodidad de su hogar. «Agradezco muchísimo poder asistir de esta manera, así que gracias por hacerlo disponible bajo demanda», comentó un asistente.
Las sesiones grabadas estarán disponibles a través de la plataforma de aprendizaje online del Simposio y las personas inscritas podrán obtener hasta 3,75 (37,5) créditos de educación continua (CEU) de la AG Bell Academy, la American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) y la American Academy of Audiology (AAA). Las personas que se hayan inscrito y/o hayan asistido al Simposio en vivo tendrán también acceso a las sesiones Bajo Demanda sin ningún costo adicional.
