Doing the Impossible: Joshua’s Spoken Language Journey

Joshua amazes his family every day with his ability to listen and talk!

Lea en Español

Before enrolling him in the Arizona Schools for the Deaf and Blind, Joshua’s father thought his son would never be able to listen and talk.

As a newborn, Joshua was diagnosed with severe hearing loss in his left ear, and at 2 months old a moderate hearing loss in his right ear. He received hearing aids for both ears and a Roger Mic to help him communicate in loud environments.

After spending time with various coaches in an early learning program, Joshua can communicate like a toddler without any type of hearing loss. This feat is something that Joshua’s father is extremely grateful for. He asserts that he is “extremely blessed”, especially now that Joshua can say the words “I love you Daddy”.

Thanks to the 2024 AG Bell’s Parent & Infant Financial Aid program, Joshua’s vocabulary will continue to progress beyond a point his father thought possible.

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2025 Parent & Infant Financial Aid program. Apply by August 19 to receive early intervention support for your child under the age of 4.

Here is Joshua learning in his program:
