An AG Bell Cradle-to-Career Moment
By Yolanda Lu

Colin Parker was born with hearing loss and uses hearing aids and a HAT system to develop his listening and spoken language skills.

This summer, Colin participated in the Mazemakers Summer Program in Massachusetts, a 4-week summer program in which he took courses in Robotics, Science, Makers, and Game Design. The camp allowed him to engage in hands-on experiment and design.

The environment of exploration and support opened his mind to everything science has to offer. “They unleashed his creativity, imagination, and interest in building, and joined in his sense of humor. Colin felt comfortable trying different things and was able to learn to persevere if something didn’t quite go as planned,” his mother, Juliana Parker, told AG Bell.

It was an enlightening four weeks, and Colin is already looking forward to joining the camp again next summer. The program was an incredible and welcoming experience, and Colin is excited to continue exploring science and design!
